Do you love unusual colour combinations as much as I do? If so, then you’re definitely going to swoon over these blue and orange bedroom designs!

I have to laugh every time I post about using bolder colours in the home because the majority of my home ranges from very white to slightly off white. But that isn’t because I don’t love colour! It’s actually because I take a really, really long time to make design-related decisions and I try not to be swayed by trends. Because I want a home that is curated and timeless.

But one design choice I have always loved – and always will – is using complimentary colours. Blue and orange is a fantastic example. It’s one of those colour combos that seems surprising, yet makes perfect sense because of where they sit on the colour wheel. I won’t get into colour theory in this post, because all I want to do here is revel in these lovely examples of blue and orange bedrooms. (To learn more about using colour in the home, visit my post on how to pick paint colours.)

So here are five bedrooms that combine blue and orange in a variety of ways, along with my tips on how to get the look in your own home – and how to do so sustainably!

Combine Blue Walls with Orange-Toned Wood Furniture

I wanted to start this post off with my most favourite of all the orange and blue room ideas I came across – this lovely bedroom with paler blue walls and orange-toned wood. Yes, there are a few orange accents by way of the bedding and the rug (which is really more red than orange). But three of the main sources of orange are the flooring, the side table and the floating shelf.

Using wood furniture is such a smart way to bring colour into the room because – as you can tell from this photo – just because it’s wood doesn’t mean it’s “neutral.” I also love how the artwork and the accents on the floating shelf have hints of orange-pink and orange-brown. It’s a much more subtle way to get this look and I am here for it.

Keep the Walls Neutral and Use Blue and Orange Accessories

Okay, but what if you love the idea of combining blue and orange, but either don’t want to or can’t paint the walls (apartment dwellers, I’m thinking of you). You can still easily incorporate your orange and blue bedroom ideas into a space with neutral walls by way of bedding and decor.

For example, start with a combination of blue and orange bedding – such as a blue duvet set and a couple orange throw pillows. Or make even more of a commitment and find or DIY a headboard upholstered in navy blue. Then add artwork with either one or both of these colours, plus a lamp or lampshade and fresh or dried flowers. Ta da!

Choose Navy Blue and Burnt Orange for a Moodier Vibe

One of the many amazing things about using colour around your home is you can create completely different vibes depending on the shades you choose. Blue and orange bedroom decor that is lighter and brighter will create a pleasant and cheery space. Meanwhile, if you like a moodier feel, try combining navy blue with burnt orange.

Burnt orange is a colour associated with fire and autumn and so it reads as a bit darker and cozier – especially when paired with darker blues. This particular combo gives a space more of a “grown up” feel and thus is perfect for a master bedroom.

Incorporate Blue and Orange Through Large Textiles

There’s a blue and orange bedroom. There’s an orange and blue bedroom. And then there’s something in between, if you know what I mean. But how exactly do you use these colours to make a statement without making too much of a statement?

Consider incorporating one larger textile that is orange and another that is blue. And that’s it! if you look closely at the below example, only the curtain and the rug utilize these colours. And yet the room still pops far more than a simple neutral space. (No shade to neutral spaces – you’ve got to do what makes you happy!)

Go Mostly Blue with Just a Splash of Brighter Orange

There’s a reason why blue is such a popular colour for walls, textiles and accessories. Not only is it beautiful, but it’s also safe. I mean, how can you not love blue – it’s the colour of the sky for goodness sake! To stay in the safe-bet lane, lean more heavily on the blue in your blue and orange bedroom design. Blue walls or wallpaper. Blue artwork. Blue bedding. You get the idea.

Then, add in just a splash of bright orange with a couple of throw pillows or some orange trim on the curtains. It still makes a big impact because orange is such a vivid colour. But you can easily swap out the orange for a different colour in the future if you tire of it. (Or, you know, for just more blue.)
