Magnus Kårestedt, CEO of the Gothenburg Port Authority, has said the port is expecting to see an increased number of calls from vessels fuelled with liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2018.

"We expect a significant rise next year in calls by vessels running on LNG, and there will be a resulting rise in the number that qualify for our LNG discount," said Kårestedt.

"The transition that is taking place is encouraging, and we look forward to welcoming more LNG-powered vessels to the port with a 20 percent discount per call."

The port rewards "good environmental performance" with a discount on port charges, providing vessels that switch to LNG propulsion with a further discount.

Alongside the news, the Port of Gothenburg announced that, for the third year in a row, it will not increase the charges set out in its Port Tariff.
