Wine calendar: National Wine and Cheese Day, JAX Vineyards featured at 2 dinners, more

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Many wine dinners and tastings are scheduled in Northeast Ohio, including JAX Vineyards of California being featured at two dinners, Fleming's is celebrating National Wine and Cheese Day, plus much more. Deadline to submit events is Thursday. Email mbona@cleveland.com:

JULY

Through Sunday, Sept. 3: The Capital Grille is holding its ninth annual The Generous Pour Wine Event, which will feature seven benchmark offerings rated 90 points or higher. Cost is $28 with dinner to try the wines. The Capital Grille is at 25389 Cedar Road, Lyndhurst. Wines and critics' ratings:

Tuesday, July 18: Western Reserve Wines will host M Cellars and owner/winemaker Matt Meineke 5-7 p.m. Cost is $15. Wines from M Cellars - located in Ohio's Grand River Valley region - include cool-climate varietals Riesling, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Gruner Veltliner, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. It's a casual walk-about tasting. Western Reserve Wines is at 28300 Miles Road, Solon.

Wednesday, July 19: Vaccaro's Trattoria will hold an Italian wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. It will feature varietals of Lombardia. Cost is $65 plus tax and tip. Vaccaro's is at 1000 Ghent Road, Akron. Call 330-666-6158 for reservations.

Thursday, July 20: Heinen's will hold Wine Workshop: Beyond Pinot Grigio - other Italian varietals 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. Cost is $15. It's at 20 Shopping Center Dr., Chagrin Falls.

Thursday, July 20: Heinen's will hold An Evening with Carol Sheldon 6:30-8 p.m. Taste six cool wines from this Sonoma, California, winemaker and winery owner. They will be paired with meats, cheeses and other foods. Cost is $15. It's at 20 Shopping Center Dr., Chagrin Falls.

Thursday, July 20: Ken Stewart's Grille will hold a five-course wine tasting at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $75 plus tax and tip. Wine lineup: Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, Newton Unfiltered Chardonnay, Newton Claret, Terrazas de los Andes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cloudy Bay Late Harvest Riesling. Ken Stewart's is at 1970 W. Friday, July 21: The first of the two-day rain-or-shine Uncorked Medina Wine Festival is 3-9 p.m. Tickets are $25 (advance), $30 (at the door), $10 (designated driver) and $100 (twilight dinner). The event will include wine and craft beers, food, music and culinary demonstrations. The twilight dinner has limited seatings Friday. Proceeds benefit Friends of Medina County Parks. It's at Buffalo Creek Retreat, 8708 Hubbard Valley Road, Seville.

Friday, July 21: Fleming's Steakhouse will hold a Dry Creek Vineyard wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $79 plus tax and tip. Fleming's is at 4000 Medina Road. Wine lineup: French Rose (Lillet Rose, St. Germaine, soda water), then all 2013 vintages: Fume Blanc Sonoma County, The Mariner, Cabernet Sauvignon and Old Vine Zinfandel. Friday-Saturday, July 21-22: The Hudson Wine Festival - 4-10 p.m. Friday and 2-10 p.m. Saturday - benefits animal-welfare and military-support organizations. It's in the First & Main Shopping District and will feature more than 150 wines, craft beers and spirits. Includes music, food, educational seminars and more. Costs: $25 (general admission before midnight Thursday, July 20) $30 (at the door, includes glass and 10 taste tickets), $35 (Weekend Pass, GA before midnight Thursday, July 20), $40 (at the door, includes glass and 10 taste tickets per day), $10 (designated-driver tickets at event only, includes two soft drink / water tickets), free (guests under age 20 with a paid admission). Includes food and music by Ernie Krivda 7-9 p.m. Proceeds support the Academy of Culture and Arts at St. Sebastian.

Friday-Saturday, Aug. 4-5: Vintage Ohio is 1-10 p.m. Sample wines from Ohio wineries. Wines range from Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and Riesling to fruit wines made from fresh strawberries, blackberries, peaches and raspberries. Includes food, cooking-school demonstrations, three stages of live music, artisans, shopping and Friday fireworks. It's at Lake Metroparks Farmpark, 8800 Euclid Chardon Road, Kirtland.
