A man who has struggled to sell his $1,000,000, seven-bedroom Scottish mansion has come up with a nifty way to get it off the market.

Shamus Fitzsimmons, a father-of-two according to Business Insider, is raffling off Dullatur House in North Lanarkshire for £5 ($6) a ticket after failing to sell it for the past year.

Aspiring homeowners can enter via a website called winyourdreamhome.co.uk where they have to answer a question about the house.

On the website, Fitzsimmons explains that after losing his job and struggling to pay the mortgage, the family decided to sell up but struggled via the conventional route of an estate agent.

"Instead of the banks flexing their muscles and repossessing this lovely home, we've decided to take matters into our own hands. We found other people running a similar competition, it's worked for them, so why not us? The house, which was built in 1745, is set in over 6,000 square feet of private land which includes a 250-year-old Monkey Puzzle Tree and one acre of private gardens. There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool, gym area and six-person sauna.

As mentioned, the online entry fee is £5 ($6) per ticket but they are accepting free written entries by first class post.

The competition is open until December and the homeowners hope that if they raise 250,000 tickets, they will have paid off their fees and covered the sale. If they reach their target, they have also said they will donate £25,000 (over $31,600) to Macmillan Cancer Support as a way of thanking everyone who entered.
