Boy of five calls 999 to save mum who was knocked unconscious falling down the stairs… after seeing it on Fireman Sam
Little Alfie Harris from Lincolnshire was hailed a 'superhero' by grateful mum Gemma after calling an ambulance
A BOY of five called an ambulance to save his unconscious mum – after seeing someone dial 999 in Fireman Sam.
Gemma Harris, 30, tripped after catching her foot on her jogging bottoms and fell down 14 steps in November 2016.
The mum, from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, hit her head on the banister and was knocked unconscious.
When she came round, she heard her brave son, Alfie, calmly dialling an ambulance – a skill he’d learned by watching his favourite cartoon.
She said: “If it hadn’t been for Alfie, I don’t know what I’d have done. I couldn’t even move to reach a phone.
“To this day, I don’t think Alfie realises that he saved my life.
“He thinks it was no big deal, but he’s a superhero.”
With her partner, Alfie’s stepdad Robbie Denton, 35, out at his job as a warehouse worker, Gemma had spent the morning of November 14 looking after Alfie, who was feeling poorly.

But, as she came downstairs, after doing some cleaning, to check on him, she caught her foot in her trousers and tripped.
She continued: “I screamed out Alfie’s name as I fell, but I don’t remember anything after that.”
Coming round a short while later, Gemma couldn’t move and was terrified she’d broken her back.
Though she was groggy, she could hear Alfie on the phone, speaking to emergency services, telling them, “Mummy isn’t talking or moving.”
Gemma said: “He knew about the emergency services through watching Fireman Sam, his favourite TV show.
“There was an episode where they were talking about dialling 999, and how ambulances are for people who’ve hurt themselves.”
Medics soon arrived, and Alfie offered to help them.
From there, Gemma was whisked to Lincoln County Hospital, where she was met by Robbie.
Alfie was picked up by his grandparents, Sue and Rodger Smith, 70 and 72, as Gemma didn’t want him to see anything traumatic at hospital.
Remarkably, though, she hadn’t broken anything and was discharged the same day with some painkillers.
Reunited with Alfie, she told him he was her hero.
Now, Gemma has fully recovered and Alfie is back to his cheerful, cheeky self.
She said: “The first time I saw him out of hospital, he hugged me really gently as he didn’t want to hurt me.
“I told him how thankful I was, but he doesn’t realise quite how much he saved me."
She continued: “Thankfully he’s not traumatised by what happened. He’s taken everything in his stride, he’s such a little dude.
“Now, I want to show other parents how important it is that kids know how to deal with emergencies. I never thought it’d be Fireman Sam who came to my rescue.”
A four-year-old recently saved his mum by using her fingerprint to unlock her phone and calling police after she collapsed.
