Gatineau cannabis grower Hydropothecary Corp. has chosen Ottawa’s Shopify to help it sell cannabis over the Internet to patients with a prescription.

The bilingual website will serve Hydropothecary’s medical customers, provide information for discerning recreational consumers and support engagement with provincial and territorial cannabis retailers, Hydropothecary said in a release.

The company said the website would also help to streamline the ordering process by verifying a patient and their prescription automatically, making ordering easier.

The company did not announce a date for when the site would be going live.
The deal is the second such agreement announced in recent weeks. Early in February, the province of Ontario announced it would be using Shopify’s online stores to sell enable the sale of cannabis to Ontarians through the newly formed Ontario Cannabis Retail Corp.
