Organic Reach on Social Media is Declining

Organic Reach on Social Media is Declining

Do you struggle to get your posts seen by your network? Is your Organic Reach Falling?

There are a lot of articles and studies that show how organic reach is declining fast.

Instagram

According to Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram, which is the latest to adopt algorithmic news feed or timeline, on average people will now miss about 70% of posts in their feed.

Facebook

On the other hand, a study by Locowise suggests that average post reach on Facebook is only about 10.8% in Feb, 2016. In essence what that means is that if you have 100 followers of your page, it is likely that only 10-11 will actually see your posts on their feed.

Twitter

Twitter is no exception here. Twitter has also adopted algorithmic timeline that sorts tweets based on interest and importance, irrespective of time. This issue starts magnifying as your page followers grow in number.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is no exception here. LinkedIn has also adopted algorithmic timeline that sorts posts.

Your organic reach on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn is falling.

Do you struggle to get your posts seen by your network?

THE PROBLEM

After working hard for years on building your network, it is very frustrating that you can not reach all of your followers.

 • Organic reach on social media is declining.

 • You only reach 8-10% of your followers (algorithm based reach).

 • A lot of platforms: too much effort, complex, and time consuming

 • Duplicate content: creating content on every platform

This is an example of what I meant by my comment on your other post, Javier 🐝 beBee. Here you've given useful insights into algorithms and timelines. We're all worried about reach and this breaks it down by social media sites. Then you explain the advantages of beBee. This is strategy everyone here should follow. Always give something to your readers. Always make your post worth reading. This is a textbook example. Good stuff. Thanks. By the way, something I posted here a few weeks ago "Think More. Write Less. Follow Clint" ended up on LinkedIn. One of the chief editors highlighted it and I went from 18 viewers to 30,000. It's important that we understand strategy, but it's useless if we don't have viewership. This points out how easy it is if the site in question actually HELPS the contributor.

All the social media channels are leaning towards paid promotions and advertisement and Regular updates in the algorithm are the main reason for the organic decline. Thanks Javier 🐝 beBee sir for the insights :)

Good feedback here, I agree
Tell me about it. Facebook is pay to play, LinkedIn no one sees your status updates or posts on Publisher, and the re-tweets and click-throughs on tweets are WAY down on Twitter. I also posted about this on The Huffington Post. Check it out: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/why-a-power-linkedin-and-twitter-user-has-been-blown_us_58c18a8ce4b0c3276fb78215 I started the B2B Bloggers Network on 3 platforms to help bloggers discover each other's content and support each other. You can read about it here: - Why I've Started the B2B Bloggers Network hive (for B2B Bloggers) https://www.bebee.com/producer/@anne-thornley-brown/why-i-ve-started-the-b2b-bloggers-network-hive-for-b2b-bloggers If we don't help ourselves and each other, our blogs will disappear.

And keeping with Kevin Pashuk's theme, Javier, no 'mushroom syndrome' here on beBee either ..... whereby other SM platform organisers keep their users in the dark and feed them excrement.

Hmmmm. "Organic" Social Media. Better for you. No "Pesky Sides" as in 'algorithm'. Lots of healthy "Additives" in the form of posts by the producers. Sorry for the puns. I'm sure Ken Boddie will be the only one to get them.

I'm sad about Instagram, I used to love it because those who I enjoyed viewing showed up in my feed first. I've lost contact with many since Algorithms on IG. I'm glad beBee is organic, it's WORKING!!

That's pretty awesome. I did an experiment yesterday with LI Pulse just to see if LI had cleaned up their act at all. The result was "Crash & Burn" in the extreme. So I's right with you, Sir Big Bee.
Javier 🐝 beBee quick Followup on movie.exe flooders..here is your usual suspect, see comment #...21

Given social medias recent birth we don't have a lot of history to gauge the future. Yahoo and AOL being the first to try and develop portals that birthed the social media of today. There would appear to be three phases a portal or social media site must go through, birth, profitability and then relevance. Each of these phases is time sensitive in their development and success. Birth is the phase of madness where membership-user acquisition is so important. Developing critical mass becomes the focus of all operations. In the past, the tools used for this stage don't really offer much in support of phase two, profitability. This second phase is where the transition can break what was built or propel you to the third phase, relevance. I believe this is what your post is referring too. The instant gratification model presented by those who are now suffering from loss of users and engagement is the temporal conditions always presented with such a fickle aspect of the human condition. This is where BeBee has the advantage. They can learn that for the long haul user engagement must give back to the user in a meaningful way. By providing a platform of user growth and development through engagement they can establish the value quickly within the user. The cautionary tail is when we move from phase one to phase two. I believe LI is/or will be a statistic of relevance as it contracts to the niche it is becoming.

Thank you, Javier, for this brilliant buzz. In addition to posting in three hives, I've shared on LinkedIn platform-wide and on several social media groups -- and also retweeted. I encourage all bees to swarm by sharing this buzz per cross-channel pollinating on multiple social media platforms.
