Redmi Note 5 Pro launched in India – Here is everything you need to know

The new generation Note series from Xiaomi

Redmi Note 5 series, this year has got us a completely revamped Redmi Note. Xiaomi has launched Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro in India. While the Note 5 is just a visual upgrade to the Note 4, the Note 5 Pro is completely a new mobile.

Here is everything you need to know about the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first mobile to feature the all new Snapdragon 636 chipset. As this is a new chipset, we need to check out its performance, but it is exciting for sure. Snapdragon 625 has been widely used in many mobiles last year and let 2018 be a new beginning with a new chipset. Redmi Note 5 pro will be available in 2 storage variants: 4+64 and an all-new 6+64 GB variant. This is the second mobile after the Moto X4 to have 6 GB RAM on a mid-range mobile. But the Redmi Note 5 pro has LPDDR4 RAM which is usually found in flagships.

As expected, Redmi Note 5 Pro has an edge-to-edge display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. It supports full HD+ resolution. While playing with the device, I realized that the screen is absolutely brilliant. It is as vibrant as an AMOLED display, but it is just an IPS LCD panel. The screen is vibrant and one of the best displays I have seen in any mobile under Rs 30000. The display just blew me out of the park.

The fingerprint sensor is at the back, but you would notice the dual rear camera setup at the back. It looks a lot like the iPhone x’s camera setup, but there ends the similarity. The dual camera is a 12+5MP setup. Xiaomi has taken their time and come up with a brilliant implementation of the dual camera. That is just my first impression but wait for a detailed camera review. It supports 1080p video recording, but it has electronic image stabilization. The front camera is a 20 MP sensor with LED flash. It has Sony IMX 376 sensor and employs super pixel technology.

It also has face unlock feature.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by a 4000 mAh battery. It runs on Android Noughat with MIUI 9 skinned on top.

It will be available in 4 colors: Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue. I love the Blue color variant. At launch, Black and Gold will be available and the other colors will be made available soon.

Redmi Note 5 will be priced at Rs 13999 for the 4GB variant. The top end 6 GB variant is priced at Rs 16999.

First impressions

Redmi Note 5 Pro is a fresh take on the Note series and a bold move as well. Xiaomi has pushed the boundaries of camera performance in this mobile and my gut feeling is that this will turn out the be the best mobile of the year 2018 in the mid-range category. Stay tuned for a detailed review of the Redmi 5 Pro.
